Am I Blue?

I just read a story called Am I Blue?  written by Bruce Coville. Obviously no one likes being called a faggot or a queer even if you are gay. It’s just not nice. The main character, Vincent is not very certain if he actually is gay or not, but even if he was, he shouldn’t get beat up for it; he’s human is he not? There are many innocent gay people out there that get picked on and others have to realize that they are normal people just like you.

According to Melvin, Vincent’s fairy god father, whoever is blue will most likely be gay. Since Vincent isn’t sure if he’s gay, he asks himself if he’s blue.

Melvin was also gay and he’s trying to help Vincent figure out if he really is gay or not. Melvin told Vincent that whoever is blue or whoever has any shade of blue or even a tint of blue is most likely gay. Also Vincent doesn’t really know where his head is at at the moment and he’s already been bullied and been called a faggot and a queer.

Melvin gave Vincent three wishes. After using up two wishes already he wanted his third wish to be for Butch Carrigan, the bully to be blue. But, before Melvin granted it, Butch was already blue so Vincent was given another chance. Instead of asking for his third wish right then and there, Vincent told Melvin that he wanted to save it, maybe for the girl of his dreams, or Prince Charming. Anyone was fine with him.
